The Starlink Mini costs $199 upfront or $16 a month for 12 months at 0% ($192 total). Service adds $55, $80 or $175 a month on Roam. Realistically, a first year of off-grid use costs anywhere from about $500 for a seasonal camper to $2,300 or more for a family on Unlimited, before power and mounting gear. The dish is the cheap part; the monthly plan and how you power it decide the real Starlink Mini cost.
Below are the current prices, the catch in the $16 installment plan, and four worked first-year budgets. We sell batteries and mounts for the Mini, so we will also be honest about when you don't need them.

$199 upfront or $16 a month?
The installment plan is 12 payments of $16, or $192. That is $7 less than paying upfront, with no interest, and you own the dish at the end. It is a retail installment agreement, not a rental.

The catch: if you cancel Starlink service before the 12 months are up, the remaining balance is due immediately. Switching between Roam plans or dropping to Standby Mode does not trigger it.
- Pick $16 a month if you'll keep some kind of service all year anyway, even if that's Standby Mode in the off-season.
- Pay $199 upfront if you might cancel completely after one summer, or you'd rather not have a balance tied to your service.
Four real first-year budgets
Each budget below is Starlink hardware plus service for 12 months, before tax. Power and mounting gear is listed separately because many people already own some of it.
1. The seasonal camper: about $500
- Mini, paid upfront: $199
- Roam 100 GB for 4 summer months: $220
- Standby Mode for the other 8 months: $80
- Starlink Mini cost for the year: $499
Standby Mode keeps the account active for $10 a month, but it's capped at 500 Kbps and won't work while moving. If you really don't need it in the off-season, check your account for the cheapest option at the time.
2. The full-time RVer who works online: about $1,150
- Mini on installments: $192
- Roam 300 GB for 12 months: $960
- Starlink Mini cost for the year: $1,152
300 GB works out to about 10 GB a day, enough for daily video calls. Our remote-work test shows how much a real workday uses.
3. The streaming family or snowbird in Mexico: about $2,300
- Mini on installments: $192
- Roam Unlimited for 12 months: $2,100
- Starlink Mini cost for the year: $2,292
Unlimited is also the only Roam tier that works outside your home region, so anyone wintering in Mexico ends up here.
4. You already have home Starlink
Starlink currently offers Residential Max customers ($130/mo) a Mini with no monthly hardware cost and Roam at half price while the home service stays active. If you're on Residential Max, check the offer in your account before buying a separate kit; it can cut the travel side of your Starlink Mini cost roughly in half.
The part nobody budgets for: power
The Mini has no battery. It runs on a 100 W USB-C supply and averages about 25–40 W. At home or plugged into shore power that costs nothing extra. Off-grid, you need one of three things (our power supply guide compares them in detail):

- Vehicle power: a regulated 12–24 V DC adapter, $39.
- A clip-on battery: the Ravion Battery Lite (99 Wh, 4–6 hours) at $189, or the Ravion Battery (158 Wh, 6–9 hours) at $329.
- A power station you already own: works fine if it has a 100 W USB-C port. You don't need to buy anything else.
A mount adds $58–$78 if you use the Mini on a vehicle or boat (car mount guide). Typical add-on budgets:
- Car camper: Battery Lite + suction mount + DC adapter, about $286.
- Full-time RV or truck: Ravion Battery + magnetic mount + DC adapter, about $445.
- Home backup only: often $0 if you keep it plugged in and have a power station for outages.
Ways to lower your Starlink Mini cost
- Pick the smallest data tier that covers your real usage. Check actual use in the Starlink app after the first month and adjust.
- Drop to Standby Mode in the months you don't travel instead of paying for Roam.
- If you have Residential Max at home, use the bundled Mini offer.
- Buy power gear once. A cheap power bank that can't hold 100 W causes reboots, and you end up buying twice. See why a Starlink Mini keeps rebooting.
Frequently asked questions
How much does the Starlink Mini cost?
$199 upfront, or $16 a month for 12 months at 0% APR ($192 total). Service is extra: $55, $80 or $175 a month on Roam.
What happens if I cancel during the $16/month installment plan?
The remaining balance becomes due right away. Changing Roam plans or switching to Standby Mode does not trigger it.
What is the cheapest way to own a Starlink Mini?
Pay for Roam only in the months you travel and use Standby Mode ($10/mo) the rest of the year. A seasonal user can keep the first-year total around $500.
Do I need a battery for the Starlink Mini?
Only if you use it away from an outlet or vehicle power. At home, a wall adapter is enough.
