Starlink Roam Plans 2026: What Changed and Which Plan Fits RV & Van Life

Starlink Roam plans in 2026 come in three tiers: 100 GB for $55 a month, 300 GB for $80, and Unlimited for $175. Only Unlimited works outside your home country, and even that is capped at 30 days per trip. Global Roam is gone, Standby Mode now costs $10 and no longer works while moving, and the Starlink Mini can be financed for $16 a month. If you set up your RV or van plan last year, it probably works differently now.

This guide covers what changed in 2026, which of the Starlink Roam plans fits each kind of traveler, and the traps that catch people. We sell power and mounting gear for the Starlink Mini, not Starlink service, so we have no stake in which plan you choose.

What changed in 2026

  • March: Standby Mode stopped working in motion. The app shows "Starlink Disabled while moving" if the dish detects travel.
  • May–June: prices went up. Roam 100 GB rose from $50 to $55, Roam Unlimited from $165 to $175, and Standby Mode doubled from $5 to $10. The new 300 GB tier launched at $80. Existing customers saw the increase from June 18.
  • July: Starlink discontinued Global Roam. The 100 GB and 300 GB plans became home-country only, and Roam Unlimited's international allowance dropped from 60 days to 30 days per trip. This applied to new customers from July 14 and existing customers from August 17 (details).
  • Late July: the Starlink Mini became available on a 12-month, 0% installment plan at $16 a month.
  • August–September: boaters got a separate $185 Personal Maritime plan, and Ocean Mode data rises to $6/GB on September 27. See our Starlink Personal Maritime plan guide if you also travel by boat.

The 30-day rule, explained

Roam Unlimited can be used outside your registered home country for up to 30 days at a time. After that the dish stops connecting until you bring it back home, which resets the counter. You also have to complete identity verification before using it abroad.

Some countries are grouped together and don't count as international travel:

  • US-Canada region: the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa and the Northern Mariana Islands.
  • Europe: most European countries, with some exceptions.

For North American RVers, that means Alaska and Canada trips are fine on any tier, including 100 GB and 300 GB. Mexico is not in the group. A winter in Baja needs Roam Unlimited and a trip home at least every 30 days.

How much data do you actually need?

100 GB works out to about 3 GB a day, and 300 GB to about 10 GB a day. For reference, HD video streaming uses roughly 3 GB an hour, and a one-hour HD video call around 1–2 GB.

  • Email, maps, weather and some browsing: 100 GB is plenty.
  • Remote work with daily video calls: 300 GB, or Unlimited if you also stream in the evening. Our remote-work test on Starlink Mini has real usage numbers.
  • Families streaming every night: Unlimited.
  • Weekend and holiday campers: Roam 100 GB for the months you travel, then pause service. Standby Mode ($10) only makes sense if the dish sits parked; it won't work on the road.
  • Full-time RVers staying in the US and Canada: Roam 300 GB for most people, Unlimited if you work online and stream. Neither needs the 30-day rule because it's all one region.
  • Snowbirds in Mexico: Roam Unlimited only, and plan a border run before day 30.
  • Overland travelers crossing many countries: Roam Unlimited covers 30 days per trip. For longer stays, Starlink's business Local Priority and Global Priority plans have longer allowances but cost much more.
  • Home Starlink customers who want a travel dish: Starlink currently lets Residential Max customers add a Mini with no monthly hardware fee and get Roam at half price while the home service stays active. Check eligibility in your account before buying a separate kit.

Buying the Mini: $199 or $16 a month?

The Mini costs $199 upfront or $16 a month for 12 months at 0% ($192 total). The installment plan is $7 cheaper, and you own the dish when it's paid off. The catch: if you cancel Starlink service before the 12 months are up, the remaining balance is due right away. Switching between Roam tiers or pausing doesn't trigger that. If you only travel a few months a year, paying upfront keeps you free to cancel. Our Starlink Mini cost breakdown works through full first-year budgets.

Whichever of the Starlink Roam plans you pick, the Mini still needs a clean 100 W USB-C supply. It averages about 25–40 W, which is about 720 Wh per day at 30 W, or roughly 60 Ah from a 12 V house battery. Our Starlink Mini power supply guide compares the options. In short:
